The Drums depict the
Corps of Drums of a typical British Army infantry regiment stationed
in Canada upon the outbreak of war with the United States in June
1812. The group does not portray a specific historical regiment, but
rather has adopted a generic impression in order to commemorate the
service of all British and Canadian field musicians during the War of
1812.
Our uniform impression
depicts the early war period, i.e. what was worn by British troops in
Canada from June 1812 until the summer of 1813. However, the War of
1812 occurred during a period of general development in British
military clothing and equipment caused by the Napoleonic Wars in
Europe. The result was that uniform worn by British troops in Canada
was constantly evolving throughout the War of 1812.
